The community of Czersk

Your location? (street, city, country):

The community of Czersk is situated in the southern part of Chojnice County, in the area which is covered by forests in 60%. There are two minor rivers in the area of the community- Niechwaszcz and Czerska Struga, and two larger ones –Brda and Wda (both are well-known routes for national and international kayak rallies) and the Grand Brda Canal. There are also a few lakes, the largest of which is Lake Ostrowite which is best-developed as far as leisure and tourism are concerned. Places worth visiting are: Ostrowite, Rytel, Mylof- there is a unique dam there with a picturesque culvert and a water power plant. The Grand Brda Canal starts there and above the dam there is an artificial lake called Zapora. The surface of the lake is nearly 1600 acres. There is a Trout Breeding Facility in Mylof, which has been active since 1975. There is also a village of Odry- situated on the River WDA, 6 Miles north of Czersk. There is a neo-classical church there and nearby there is a reservation called ”Stone Rings”- a branch of Historical-Ethnographical Museum in Chojnice. It is a cemetery of the Goth people who settled here about 70/80 BC. The reservation is also an interesting natural object-there are precious and unique lichens there. On the border of the community there is an aqueduct in the village of Fojutowo-the aqueduct is a junction of two rivers- Czerska Struga and The Grand Brda Canal. It is the longest (246feet) and largest construction of this kind in Poland, unique in Europe.
